Columbus, the global digital business services provider, today announced Mary Hunter, Managing Director of Columbus UK, has won the IAMCP Women in Technology Leadership award at the Microsoft Inspire event in Las Vegas.

At a glance:

  • Recognises outstanding contributions to Women in Tech community and leadership excellence within own organisation
  • Award presented at Microsoft Inspire 2018 ceremony on 17 July, Las Vegas

The Leadership award, presented to Mary after an extensive judging process, recognises outstanding leadership within both the Women in Tech community and the winner’s own organisation, demonstrated by notable accomplishments and initiatives created to promote Women in Tech.

Columbus operates a variety of UK initiatives to give back to the community and help promote technology careers among young girls, including donating laptops to schools, actively promoting the establishment of ‘Code Clubs’, and hosting visits for classes to learn about technology and how best to pursue a career in the sector.

The company has demonstrated an enduring commitment to Women in Tech initiatives within Microsoft circles – most recently hosting and presenting at the Summit EMEA Women in Technology Luncheon in Dublin.

Mary Hunter, Managing Director, Columbus UK

“As head of Columbus UK, I have worked hard to steer and develop Columbus into an inspired and committed team with a vibrant supportive culture.

“I always look to lead by example providing mentoring and 1:1 sessions and I’m passionate about offering guidance and support to develop great people, so it is an honour to receive this award.

“As a woman in business, I'm passionate about encouraging other women to take up and thrive in technology careers and to help close the gender gap to create a stronger, more diverse workforce in the industry. I believe it is vital that we all play an active role in creating opportunities for diversity and women in technology, whether this is offering flexible working, return to work programs, apprenticeships and graduate schemes, or acting as highly visible role models to advocate for greater opportunities in career development and progression.”

“And we need to inspire the next generation to take up careers in technology too. That’s why the members of the Columbus team here attending Microsoft Inspire are all wearing STEM t-shirts designed by children from primary schools in the UK as part of our most recent initiative!”
