Manage Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain Management in Power Platform

Written by Columbus | May 6, 2022

To break through siloes, more companies are using process orchestration to link front- and back-end business applications and teams. Cross-functional teams that use data and technology to drive shared business outcomes have become more common, and low-code and no-code tools have quickly grown to fill gaps in applications.

According to a recent Microsoft Dynamics 365 Blog update, over the next several release waves for Dynamics 365, Microsoft plans to make this all a little easier for admins.

Finance and Supply Chain Management apps will be available to be installed and managed in the Power Platform admin center.

At Columbus, we’re excited about this update. Here are a few things you should know:

  • Want more flexibility? This change will provide that. A single environment in the Power Platform admin center can govern multiple Dynamics 365 apps, such as Marketing and Field Service. Today, in Lifecycle Services, each instance of Finance and Supply Chain Management apps are considered their own environment. This shift will allow Finance and Supply Chain Management apps to be installed in the Power Platform model like any other Dynamics 365 application.
  • You have a choice. You don’t have to use the Power Platform capabilities right away for Finance and Supply Chain Management apps – you can stick with Lifecycle Services to manage your environments and apps.
  • If you don’t make the move now, you can move later as Microsoft plans to offer a way to migrate environments from Lifecycle Services to the new admin center.

The new capability is available for Project Operations trials. That means you can set up your environment with dual-write, business events and virtual entity support – reducing setup time. Learn more in this Microsoft blog.

We’d love to help you decide whether it’s the right move based on your business needs. Reach out today.
