Late last year Infor announced that Infor OS and Infor OS Lite for on-premises (OP) will be moved from supplementary maintenance to sustaining maintenance by the end of 2024. This means that from then on, no new updates or fixes will be provided for these products. This happens because some of the prerequisite components in the Infor OS OP like for example Amazon Corretto® 8 (Java®) are being retired by their owners. To not expose your environment to security risks it is therefore strongly recommended to plan for actions.
For most customers that are not planning to go to the cloud in the near future, the alternative solution will be to exchange licenses to a new Infor product called Local Technology Runtime (LTR). LTR will basically replicate all the critical core services of Infor OS on-premises, but built on new technical prerequisites, that Infor commits to support until the end of this decade. So, if you are running Infor OS on-premises today and you want to remain supported and retain the functional capabilities of your current Infor OS solution, you need to migrate your solution to Infor LTR. Although it is a new name and a new technical foundation, this does not mean that you will get loads of new capabilities in your on-premises solution, as these will be developed solely for the Multi-tenant cloud version of Infor OS.

One side of the coin for taking action is the addressing the technology- and security risks implied by running unsupported solutions. On the other side, however, what LTR seemingly will provide on the longer term, is access to do hybrid deployments, integrating LTR on-premises with a multi-tenant Infor OS deployment in the cloud, allowing you to utilize modern cloud services like artificial intelligence, enterprise automation, RPA and many other together with your business solutions. How this hybrid option will come into play in practice is not completely clear yet, but it definitely holds some potential for businesses that are running an on-premises M3 ERP but has ambitions on getting started on AI before moving M3 to the Cloud.
